Powers

Viktor's abilities are titled as "Fight or Flight" and "Intuition."

"Fight or Flight" allows Viktor to levitate out of reach and release high-powered shockwaves of electrical psychic energy (which he refers to as explosions). This also encapsulates his telekinetic abilities. He has gotten good at handling his levitation and is currently working on learning to control his telekinesis, but he cannot seem to control the explosions at all.

"Intuition" enables him to sense when his loved ones are in distress, and teleport to their aid. Due to false alarms brought on by Edwin's college finals stress, he has gotten better at not immediately acting on the danger sense. "Intuition" can detect when he is in danger as well, but due to rampant self-hatred it is muffled.

Complete Biography

Content Warning: This biography deals heavy in self-destructive behaviour (namely self harm and attempted suicide), domestic/religious abuse, and generally unhealthy actions. Proceed with caution.

This page is also really fucking long, so if you wanna read it all at once, it's gonna take a minute.

Viktor was born in Ontario, Pennsylvania in the "Clark family practice" cult - a kind of "doomsday"-esque cult that encouraged self-destructive behaviour as a means to repent for sin and other percieved wrong-doing. He was born to the leaders of the cult, Marie and Edwin II, alongside his older twin, Edwin III.

Considered the black sheep of the family, Viktor was raised separately from his brother. It didn't stop them from connecting with one another at first, but later Marie began fostering resentment between the siblings. She made numerous quiet attempts on his life, including tricking him into accidentally consuming deadly nightshade, and sabotaging a coming-of-age ritual, the latter of which did kill him, triggering his psychic awakening in the process.

Being a traumatised teenager, Viktor was unable to control his powers, which responded to his feelings of fear and anxiety, which "proved" he didn't belong. As a result, he took to "running away" for short periods and lashing out as a form of rebellion. He made a few "worldly" friends and eventually "excommunicated" himself at the age of 13, moving in with Nathan Driver, one of said friends. They became inseparable and considered one another family.

When he was 15 and Nathan was 16, tensions rose between Viktor and his newfound family. Viktor was keenly aware of Nathan's parents view of him and the fact that they didn't really want him around. Eventually when Nathan was at a game, they had a vicious fight that led to Viktor running off again. Nathan came to get him, but on their way back they got into a horrific accident that killed Nathan and seriously injured Viktor.

He was kept from Nathan's funeral, and so as soon as he saved enough, he bought a van, prepared to leave Ontario behind. Shortly before he left, he accidentally reunited with his brother Edwin. Edwin explained to him that their family was dead, and that he wanted to leave with him. Viktor considered it against his better judgement, but allowed him to come with.

Viktor was entirely aimless for some time, continuing to engage in self-destructive behaviour and coming to believe that "God" made him solely to damn him, so it didn't matter if he sinned or not. Meanwhile, Edwin, wanting to follow in their parents' footsteps, sought to finish high school and get into a good college and become a lawyer. Viktor helped him with his studies until he graduated. Then, at 18, Edwin moved out, wanting more stable living arrangements. He began sending Viktor a hefty "allowance" from the inheritance Edwin had recieved from their family's death, worried about Viktor's aimlessness and wanting to make sure he'd be able to live comfortably without him.

Still aimless, Viktor grew obsessed with the idea of reanimating the dead. He felt that Nathan's death was his fault, and thought perhaps if he could do the impossible as his mother used to insist he could do, then perhaps he could show his father he isn't the worthless sinner idiot he thought he was. So he began working on a serum to reanimate the dead, bouncing between locations in his van, never growing too attached to anyone or much of anything.

He changed his name to "Viktor" after his maternal grandfather and took his mother's last name, wanting to distance himself from the "Clark" part of his bloodline - his glasses were rose-tinted when it came to his mother. Because his family had instilled in him and his brother a vicious paranoia against medical workers, Viktor did the very, very normal thing and used his powers to perform his own top surgery.

When he was 21, Viktor moved to Obalton, home of the famous Odin University and just a few cities away from the similarly prestigious Yew College. He moved here because Edwin had gotten accepted to Yew, and Viktor thought it would be convenient for them to share housing when school's out.

He met a few friends here, namely Tetsu Kobayashi and Kit Kent, whom he met as coworkers at a local book store. His social skills were poor due to his willful isolation from others (his powers were still very difficult to control), and they helped him to become more comfortable around people.

As he grew more comfortable around people, Viktor began to frequent certain social events. He started keeping a heartrate monitor on hand to help him tell when he was getting too nervous and needed a break, which helpeed his comfort. Then Kit dragged him to a set of pride events, and one of them happened to have a small indie band performance. Viktor was entirely enthralled by Vince Thompson, the singer-guitarist, and made the impulsive choice to meet him after the concert was over. They became fast friends and Viktor began actively pursuing social situations to be around him, a far cry from his previous refusal to so much as look another person in the eye.

As they grew closer, their relationship grew more romantic in nature until they started dating. Viktor ceased all work on his serum. Things were great. Vince was patient. Viktor made massive strides in learning to control his powers, interacting with others, and, well, again, his general comfort in social situations. They were very communicative and understanding towards one another. Viktor was able to pretend he was just as normal as anyone else in town.

However, Viktor had not actually coped with his trauma, hiding behind humor and shunting development in favor of "hehe I'm so sinful and evil and I kiss boys". As their relationship continued, Viktor felt dread bloom in his heart, until eventually he began to grow distant and unwilling to talk.

Since they'd previously been great about communication, Vince tried to approach the issue head-on, but Viktor viciously lashed out, unchecked anxiety leading him to believe Vince was ready to leave, and if he wasn't already, then he would soon. In a shitty attempt to take control of the situation, Viktor used Vince's insecurities against him to force him to leave, in the process proving his own nasty perceptions of himself true.

Vince broke up with him in response, and they haven't spoken since.

In an explosion of impulsive and toxic self-hatred, Viktor resumed his experiments. He chose to finally properly test his reanimation serum on himself, figuring that if he failed then he probably deserved it.

But first, he wanted to prepare.

At work, Tetsu opened up to him, informing him that his ex-boyfriend-roommate abandoned him on a lease he couldn't afford, and if he couldn't figure something out in the next couple weeks or so, he'd be homeless. With this information, Viktor wrote up a will, leaving Tetsu his possessions and house so that at least something good would come out of everything. He wholeheartedly believed he was going to die, even if he mentally insisted to himself the serum would work.

He severely injured himself and used the serum on himself. And it worked. By some fucking miracle, it worked.

He had Tetsu move in with him temporarily while he helped him find another place to live. Since Tetsu had mentioned it was his dream to open a cafe, Viktor decided to make his dream come true, too. He found a place to open the cafe and he found a place for Tetsu to live, using the "allowance" from Edwin to purchase them for Tetsu. Together, they started the cafe, and Viktor helped move furniture in.

All was fine for a month or two. Viktor didn't do very many more experiments, finding purpose again in helping with the cafe. He handled his friend's business expenses, volunteering as a worker here and there until he could hire an employee or 3.

Unfortunately, due to the circumstances of Viktor's last major experiment, his wounds did not heal properly; the serum was the only thing actually keeping him functional. He grew sick and realised he needed desperately to make more. As he worked on making more serum, he realised that there was something in his blood that reacted with the serum to make it work properly. More specifically, he realised there was ectoplasm in his blood. He hypothesised that he didn't have very much of it, so the serum worked slowly and caused him to heal equally slowly. Hoping to make it work faster, he began studying ghosts and collecting ectoplasm from them. When the new serum was finished, he was basically good as new.

However, his "harassing" of the local supernatural entities attracted the attention of Goro Kamimori, a local exorcist. Goro befriended him under the guise of helping him learn to control his powers, when really he was trying to figure out just what Viktor needed with ectoplasm anyway.

Eventually, Goro got to know him enough to enter his mind. He sought to "steal" the trauma that led Viktor down this path, which he hoped would not only stop him from bothering the local spirits, but also grant him control over his powers as well as stop him from attempting to reanimate his cult family.

It had unintended consequences. Viktor's mind percieved Goro as a kind of virus and became viciously protective of the goal to reanimate his family, since Goro began his work by targeting that. As a result, he was driven to do exactly the opposite of what Goro wanted, and returned to Ontario.

He sought his family's graves, but out of hateful spite resurrected by Goro, he intended on starting with his father. But he couldn't find the damn grave.

It turned out that his father had faked his death, and was working as the gravekeeper. He briefly took Viktor in after he passed out at the cemetery, filling him in once he awoke. It took about two weeks for Viktor to recover from Goro's meddling, after which he went home.

Reeling from the realisations his father brought to the table (his father is alive, his mother made multiple attempts on his life, and his mother was the one that destroyed the cult), Viktor went into hiding for about another month. When Goro turned up, Viktor got out of him that he'd been running around in his mind, and cut contact with him.

It took a bit of time to come out of hiding. Viktor met a cute guy at the local game shop named Aleksi. He met back up with Vince and they reconciled, although Vince (rightly) didn't forgive him. He learned from Vince that Tetsu had been talking shit about him for the past month, insisting he was some kind of master manipulator that would fuck him over as soon as he got the chance. Viktor, already in a delicate state of mind and feeling especially sore from two friends betraying him, lessened contact and stopped volunteering.

Tetsu was forced to realise that Viktor did indeed see him as a friend. Viktor didn't pull financial support, as even if everything he thought about their relationship was a lie, he didn't want to put anyone in that position. A little bit of communication and a heart-to-heart later, and they fell on tentatively friendly terms. Tetsu was more cautious, monitoring his own thought patterns towards Viktor to keep this from happening again.

During a hangout, Viktor learned from Vince that Odin U was actually a psychic school. Vince told him that Kai Jackson, one of the grad students, could probably help him more than Goro ever could with his control over his powers. So, he began a mentorship with Kai.

He reunited with Nathan, who was also alive this whole damn time. Equipped with the knowledge that death can cause psychic awakenings, Viktor responded better to this information than he would've thought before. They were quite unsure of how to behave with one another, each equally cautious, but still having a very close bond.

There's a plot point about Viktor discovering that Aleksi is the ex that abandoned Tetsu, but this plot point isn't fleshed out enough to touch on very much. All that matters is there's a lot of drama and it's much more related to Aleksi and Tetsu's storyline than it is to Viktor's.
